Shop Talk
May 21 marked the one year anniversary of my bridal shop closing.
I've been catching myself reminiscing, daydreaming of everything from opening and dealing with the good, the bad, and the ugly to what it was like to close. Up until recently, when people asked me if I missed my bridal boutique, or even when I asked myself, I turned my eyes inward and saw moonscape.
Just a few ghostly memories flitting about that could not be strung together to create a cohesive emotion or thought. Forgetting is one of my favorite responses to a great loss or disappointment. To this day, I'm unable to remember huge stretches of the time during my parents' divorce.
Now, though, I am feeling the urge to recap. At length. Over lots and lots of micheladas.
Everything from what it felt like on our first day open and the bride who refused to wear underwear (yes, it happened more than once) while she tried on dresses, to the customer who confided that she wasn't sure her fiance was who she should spend her life with, and then to the homeless man who broke into my shop to get some sleep...it all has come flooding back.
So, for the next few weeks, or at least until this storytelling semi-frenzy eases, I'll be posting what comes seeping up through the murk.
This blog, which started out as flotsam to cling to from the shipwreck that was Promise (my bridal shop), and then turned into a wedding blog, and then to a place where I post anything (and sometimes nothing) wedding related, is now adding a "Bridal Shop Story" feather to its cap.
For those few intrepid visitors that still come around, feel free to comment, share your own story, or even drop some knowledge on me regarding where I could have put it down better in words.
I think I'll be posting the first one Friday (don't wanna skip Thursday Dance Party), so thanks in advance, Internets, for being a big, vast place to jettison messages in bottles to!
