I have lived most of my life in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, as a native Washingtonian, I routinely fall prey to a common DC disease: I-don't-go-outside-of-the-beltway-itis.
Lately, Mr. Foxy and I have been trying to remedy that ailment by exploring the entire metro area to find everything it has to offer.
Man. I had no idea what I have been missing out on food-wise.
DC has an attraction that far outshines anything you will find on the National Mall.
The Dutch Country Farmers Market in Laurel, MD.
Into a chaotic shopping plaza and then an unassuming market and then...jackpot.
Everything is homemade. By Amish people. There are doughnuts (hands down the best I have eaten), all kinds of fresh produce, the best candy selection ever, and the piece de resistance, a steak and cheese pretzel roll.
The market is filled with things that are great for everyday and killer for a wedding. Plus, everything is super affordable.
So much cool stuff I couldn't fit it in one post.
So, first, the candy shop. All the chocolates are from Ashers, a family-owned chocolate company in Pennsylvania. So, so good. They may have knocked See's out of 1st place in my heart.
The snowball made me see stars. White chocolate and coconut wrapped around a milk chocolate caramel. I couldn't even wait to take the picture.
Check out these chocolates that look like deviled eggs!
Ummm. Chocolate covered Peeps? Yes, please!
Then the jellys...so good for so many things. These were fried eggs! How cool?!
Pretty much every color and flavor twizzler you could ever want...
The candy store was also part of a dry goods store. There were homemade dry mixes for hot chocolate, soup, dips, drinks, cereals, you name it. And there also was a lot of JAM!
Up tomorrow...the bakery!
