Punk Rock Pilgrimage

For the longest time, I have wanted to talk about what goes into the production of a gown. One dress, start to finish. The sketch, fabric selection, sample execution, and finishing.

An incredible amount of work goes into the making of a bridal gown, something that I think gets lost when we consider the cost. It is true that some are way, way overpriced, and that inflation is rampant. However, it is incorrect to make blanket statements like "all bridal gowns are not worth their price" or "the markup is outrageous."

Designers who manufacture in the US are spending hours and hours (and paying a premium) on the process: sourcing fabrics, cutting and grading patterns, and manufacturing. Those are factors that are included in the cost of a gown, and are then passed on to the retail business that sells them.

Stephanie from Punk Rock Bride (see my earlier post to learn more about her and her collection) has generously opened up her DC studio and pulled back the curtain to show us the progression of one of her gowns. Tomorrow's post in the Punk Rock Pilgrimage series will reveal the design we are following from her 2010 collection (that has not even been produced yet!). I am so excited to see everything unfold, I can't stand it.

If you have any questions for Stephanie, just comment below or on any of the upcoming posts about her collection, and come back tomorrow to see the sketch of the dress!
