Whoopie Pies were one of those forgotten desserts for me until recently when I went to the market and saw some sitting like old friends in the bakery.
They have got to be one of the top five desserts of all time. Cookies and icing? Be still my heart. Plus, they are cute, happy, little pieces of deliciousness. They can be big or small. Almost any flavor. Chocolate dipped.
Dare I say they are as versatile as cupcakes?
If you are determined to have favors, I am all for the edible ones. Or they could be in the out-of-town guests' rooms. For my wedding, we had those big iced cookies in the guest bags. Baked goods are always welcome when you are hungry late at night in a hotel and are loathe to raid the mini bar.
Whoopie Pies for everyone!
These can be bought already wrapped from Wanna Have a Cookie?
You could even make them yourself, which I would never do since I am useless in the kitchen, but I know not everyone is as hopeless as me. There are directions (and more pictures) for these red velvet whoopie pies at Broccoli and Chocolate.
DIY pumpkin Whoopie Pies from Bon Appetit.
Order them online (saves time and less likely to produce accidents). These are from a site called Wicked Whoopies.
