Julianne Smith, a.k.a. Garter Girl, is next up in my wedding wear Q&A. Julianne is a woman on a mission to modernize a traditional wedding element: the garter. Her creations are updated classics with a dash of foxy! Most recently, her garters were on The TODAY Show's TODAY Throws a Wedding. You can check out the video here.
FW: I love how creative you are! How did you come up with the idea of a modern girl's garter?
GG: The modern girl's garter - I like it! Thanks for the creativity props! I'm one of those annoying people that makes it when I can't find what I'm looking for. I couldn't find a stylish garter to match my friend's personality, so I made one for her.
FW: Where do you get your inspiration?
GG: Inspiration comes from all over. I'm always analyzing things in my mind or staring too long at someone's outfit. Inspiration usually hits me at the oddest of times, too, like in the grocery store and then I'm franticly looking for some paper to write it down before I forget!
GG: As DIY-ish as I am, my favorite part was letting my mom and wedding vendors do all the work! I consulted on major things, but for the first time in my life, I gave up control and let the pros do their job. I wanted to enjoy my wedding and not be consumed by the details. In the end, it was the best day of my life! Even with all the wedding inspiration that I see on a daily basis, I still wouldn't change a single thing from my day. FW: Any advice for brides-to-be planning their weddings?
GG: Just have fun! The farther you get away from your wedding, you realize how unimportant the details are. But, the one thing you do remember is how fun (or not) it was.
FW: Lastly, lately I have been obsessed with traveling to the South Pacific. If you could go anywhere on holiday, where would it be?
GG: Greece. I'm like feeling a cruise around the Mediterranean right now.
FW: I am so there - maybe I will forget my Fiji obsession and head to Greece!
