DIY Wedding Gown Made of Toilet Paper

No, you did not have some sort of malfunction reading the title. You heard me right - toilet paper wedding gowns.

If you are like me, anything more sophisticated than paper snowflakes is out of my league. These ladies have taken DIY and creativity to a whole new level.

I have to admit, the winning (and runners-up) gowns of the contest held at Cheap Chic Weddings are really impressive! I would NEVER have guessed toilet paper for the fabric. In fact, it is quite lovely and the detail is incredible. The winner, Ana, created her gown out of toilet paper, tape, and glue (and a lot of talent with Origami).

The hat in the image is made out of toilet paper, too!

I have to say, though, while I am all for not completely going buck wild and falling into serious crazy 50-year debt for your wedding, I am a big fan of finding the gown you love AND can live with. I know there is a lot of information out there about how you can save a bundle on your wedding gown by using online discounters. I am 100% totally opposed to this for so many reasons...I am fired up just thinking about it. I am going to have to write a separate post about it!

I will say this whilst I gather my thoughts: often those discounters are selling subpar copies of whatever gown you have chosen. Thus, you are really, really just throwing good money after bad. Also, and most importantly, by supporting those discounters (which are often overseas-based manufacturers who do not employ a significant staff in the States), you are taking money away from local small businesses. If you find you are unable or have no desire to spend a lot of money on the gown you want, you are much better off choosing a gown that is a sample or once worn (such as one from my girl Britta at Dream Bride LA), borrowing a friend's, finding a vintage gown, or making your own (maybe not from toilet paper).

Whew. I need a cupcake or a cocktail to settle down.

More on this later!
