Um. I almost died when I saw this video I found via Sparkliatti:
I honestly can't tell you how many times brides-to-be in my shop asked for an additional discount due to the dismal state of the economy, when we were already running a sale (because of the economy). Now, don't get me wrong. It does not hurt and it is not inappropriate to ask, especially if you love love love a dress and also need to stick to a budget. I also know it is tempting to believe all the hype on the interwebs that all bridal gowns are somehow marked up a huge amount. I cannot speak for all types of gowns, but I can say with absolute certainty that couture, silk gowns are not marked up an outrageous amount. Any more than 10% off and generally a shop is really running the risk of owing more than they make on the gown.
If the boutique cannot meet your budget, there are some really great options out there. Instead of asking for additional discounts, inquire if the sample is for sale, or go online and visit a reputable online sample and once-worn gown seller like my friend Britta at Dream Bridal LA. I am not even going to talk about discount retailers of bridal gowns since it is shady stuff and I get really fired up.
